So I'm getting opportunity to attend the Midwest Educational Technology Conference (METC, #METC14 on Twitter) in St. Charles Missouri. I got the opportunity to come down here with quite a number of really good educators from District 308, and the conversations we've been having with this group is really starting to get me thinking.
One of the presenters I saw today was Josh Stumpenhorst (@stumpteacher) and while Josh and I don't agree on everything, I really did like a lot of the things he has to say. One of the things in his session, "the connected educator", he mentioned that in order to become active on Twitter, start writing a blog, creating/sharing on YouTube you just have to start. It's like his run streak (which I am in awe of 700 and some days), just start. As we go on this journey it's gonna be something where people are going to agree with us, people will disagree with us, and people might say some mean things about some of our thoughts. But when we put ourselves out there, it gives us the opportunity to reflect on what we believe. When the people who don't agree with us challenge those ideas, it provides us an opportunity to reflect on what it is that we believe and either affirm our beliefs or gives us something that we need to think about.
